Jesus didn't need to manipulate people. He was kind to them, and created a safe environment for them, though.

He first fed the crowd, and then once their needs were met he taught them the truth.

I like feeding people, and I am comfortable teaching them. But I am always afraid of doing these at the same time because I don't want to create a feeling of obligation or a love that is transactional.
